I am thankful for dirty dishes in my sink, because this means I have food to eat, something on which to eat it, and running water/dishwasher to clean them.
This is a weird thing for which to be thankful. But, it does help put things into perspective, make us appreciate things, and put a positive spin on an unpleasant situation.

1. The next workshop date is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 2021.
2. If you have never gone to a technology conference or connected with an educator technology group/organization I would encourage a few of the following options

- Note: Annual fall conference held near Indy.
- Note: This year, because of COVID-19 it was held virtually in July. Click on the link above to learn more about ICE and maybe set a goal to go to their annual conference within the next few years!
- Michigan Association of Computer User Learning (MACUL)
- Note: Upcoming Regional Conference in March! This year it is scheduled to take place March 17th-19th, 2021 in Detroit, MI. To learn more or to register click here.
- International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE)
- Note: Annual International Conference Held Each Summer.
- Note: This year, because of COVID-19, the ISTE Conference will be held online. It is slated for November 29-December 5th. To learn more or to take advantage of early-bird registration (before Oct. 1st) click here.

Dear TEC21 Participants,
Oh give thanks unto the Lord!
It’s always at about this time of the year that I find myself extra thankful for the TEC21 ministry. Perhaps it’s because the workshop program is well on it’s way during another school term or maybe it’s because Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Either way, I am so thankful for the MANY ways God has blessed our work over the past 12 years.
First, I want to thank you for joining us this year and for all that you do for Lutheran school ministries and the proclamation of the gospel. Thank you for modeling to your students your desire to continue to learn for their sake. It is my prayer that the relationships you are forming and the learning that is taking place as you gather together each month through our workshop program has been and will continue to be a blessing to both you personally and to your teaching ministry not only for this year, but for many years to come. Personally, I find that being able to connect with other teachers is vital to my teaching ministry. It is a boost to my mental and spiritual health. I love learning with and from others. The relationships I have made through TEC21 help to keep me feeling fresh and excited to teach each year. I hope this is the case for you, too! If it is, I’d like to ask you for your help.
The facilitators and I have begun forming our next cohorts that will begin in September of 2021. Personal testimony goes a long way, so I would be most grateful if you would help us by thinking of a fellow teacher or teachers that you could encourage to register for Season 13? They could be teachers from your school or any other school for that matter. With your help we will be able to impact more teachers (and their students) for the sake of the gospel. I thank you in advance for any support of our efforts that you can give to us.

Let’s take some time to reflect on last month’s TEC21 Challenges and share experiences.
- Digital: Engage your students in a digital storytelling activity or project. Share your experience by posting for others to see!
- Social: Post a question, an answer, a resource, a picture of your students working on digital storytelling, or an example of a student project to the TEC21 Educators Group on Facebook.
- Spiritual: Be a resource to at least one new person on your faculty before we meet again.

Digital Assessment Strategies
- Socrative – Allows teachers to create simple quizzes that students can take quickly on laptops, classroom tablet computers, or their own smartphones. Check out this video example!
- Quizizz – create quizzes that can be played either live or assigned as homework. This one is better for a calmer experience or for posting on your classroom website. Students join the game on a handheld device using just a PIN (no login required) on the website: join.quizizz.com

- Plickers – A powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices. Check out this video example.
- EdPuzzle – A site that allows users to select a video and customize it by editing, cropping, recording audio, and adding questions to make an engaging presentation or lesson.

- Seesaw – A student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school. FEATURES: Easily Capture Student Learning in Any Form ∙ Students can use photos, videos, drawings, text notes, links to show what they know.
- Google Sites – allows you to create a digital portfolio while also creating your own website. You can embed any digital project or google app with a link or an embed code.
- Student Portfolio Apps & Websites – Compiled by Common Sense Media, this useful article provides you with a chart of options for online portfolios for students complete with grade levels, platforms, and pricing!
- Google Folders/Google Classroom – Set up a Google account for each student so they log in once and save to the cloud. Allows Collaborative projects in Docs & Slides. Digital Tools & Resources
ClassDojo is a classroom communication app used to share reports between parents and teachers. Teachers track student behavior and upload photos or videos. The gamification style system teaches developmental skills through real-time feedback
Classkick is a free app that students work on and get help instantly from their teacher and peers.Students work on assignments with their Chromebooks, laptops, or iPads, while getting help from teachers and peers instantly. Teachers create assignments, see all their students’ work in real-time, and give LOTS of student feedback. Best of all, students can help each other anonymously.
Daisy the Dinosaur is a free, simple and easy-to-use beginner app that teaches basics of coding. Geared toward early childhood and early elementary.
codeSpark’s mission is to make computer science education accessible to kids everywhere.
CodeMonkey is a fun and educational game environment where students learn to code in a real programming language, no previous experience needed.
Tynker offers hands-on, problem-solving tasks that teach students coding. With relevant and age-appropriate puzzles, students learn the basics of coding and are able to use it to complete challenges and make their own creations. Plans are available for schools and educators. (Grade 2+)
The Goosechase App allows you to create a scavenger hunt which your students can join. The app gives points for each of the items your students upload on their device. Available for both iOs and Android. Each GooseChase game has a list of missions for participants to complete. You can create your mission list using our bank of 100+ tested missions or by designing your own from scratch. There’s a free version and a paid version. This would be great for a scavenger hunt activity and can be related to many subjects.
Online Jeopardy game : Factile provides a very professional Jeopardy game format that you, or your students, can easily create questions and answers for to review or assess learning. Check the public games already made to see if they meet your needs.
Prodigy Make math a game. Students can work at their own pace, or specific skills can be assigned, as student play games and earn rewards.
