Little or No Prep Tools & Resources

Educreations is a simple tool to use! Change backgrounds, write while you talk, capture images and voice. Students can use to explain their process in math, or expand upon a picture story they created. Simply take a picture of the child’s work or let them work it on the iPad or laptop, then record the student’s voice explaining process. Engage students with video to capture ideas, share instantly, replay anytime. Publish current Educreations video before beginning a new one (only one new project may be worked on at a time).  Here is a sample made by my daughter, Jaden, using Educreations.  She was about 5 when she made this video about a cow.  Keep it short, less than 4 minutes for teaching and 1 minute for students demonstrating learning, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Screencast-O-Matic is a web-based tool that let’s you record on-screen activity for short tutorials, visual presentations, and communicate while you demonstrate! You can make a free 15 minute recording of the screen only or even put yourself into the video down in the corner. Publish to YouTube or save as a video file. Or try a similar tool Screencastify as a Chrome Add-On with 10 minute recordings.

iMovie Trailer Planning Sheets. Take pictures or video to fill in each box. Add text. Produce! Share! Also take videos in iMovie and edit.

Green Screen by Do Ink makes it easy to create incredible green screen videos and images right on your iPad or iPhone. The app lets you combine photos and videos from the camera roll with live images from your iPad or iPhone’s camera. Featured in “Best New Apps in Education.”

TouchCast Studio app is now free! Annotate, explain and present anything easily and quickly with TouchCast Studio. Add webpages, files, images, videos… nearly anything! Then record or live stream* and share across the web. Here is an example “Presidential Debate” for fun and see how you can bring in websites, Twitter feeds, images, Google documents and more to your screencast. Realistic backgrounds allow you to film a sports clip, news clip, and more. Note that I made this screencast in front of a green screen so this newsroom background shows up. I didn’t write out a script. You don’t want to spend too much time on these screencasts to make them doable.

Download ClipChamp to allow recording from webcam including on Chromebooks. Limited number free.

Have Chromebooks? Check this list of best video tools for use on Chromebooks. We Video is the top recommended video app for Chromebook, paid premium version gives you Green Screen capabilities and templates. Check it out!

Ignite Talks are a new form of presentation. Students create 20 slides and talk 15 seconds per slide for a 5 minute talk! Honing Students’ Speaking Skills

Try in your math center to teach fractions, money, geometric shapes, math vocabulary and much more! This site offers each of these free apps as web apps, Apple apps, and Chrome apps! Click on the site and start trying these tools out! Note that you need to provide problems and feedback to students to facilitate their learning.
