3. This series of workshops will provide you the opportunity to grow in a fun, safe and supportive environment. How and what you decide to implement into your classroom is up to you–personalized learning at its best!
- There are program-specific aspects–what we as Facilitators collectively deem as core components across the board.
- There are center-specific aspects–what individual Facilitators include which are practical and relevant to their teachers based on needs and interests.
- In the TEC21 Workshop Program, how are short- and long-term goals defined?
- SHORT-TERM – Some sort of technology integrating lesson or activity you want to do with your students THIS MONTH.
- LONG-TERM – A major change in the way you teach or manage your classroom. “I want to do less of THAT and more of THIS.” It could include a blog, a web site used for flipping your classroom, going paperless with Google Docs, using digital portfolios for student work, integrating project-based learning using a specific tool or tools. There are many possibilities. Think of something you’ve seen or heard about that makes you “spark” and think, “Yeah! I want to do more of THAT!”
4. On our final workshop day, we will gather together for what we have dubbed “Celebration Day”. This particular session’s format is unique among the others in that each of you will share some of the ways in which you implemented your ideas or projects to enhance your teaching and student learning. Think of this as a mini-conference where each of you will have 10-15 minutes to share with the group how your TEC21 experience has impacted your classroom. It’ll be among friends so there’s no need to get worked up about it. Here’s an outline to guide you in your planning – “Celebration Day”. You can share your learning with the group in any way you choose, but we’ll have you start a Google Slide today just as an option. Then if you end up presenting in this way you can add to your slides throughout the school year and avoid the pressure of having to develop a presentation toward the end of the program! Again, remember this is a low-key, no pressure, fun day to share with each other our successes (and yes failures) as well as aspirations you might have for things you want to do the next school year!
5. Are you needing college credit to renew your teaching license? If you are, then you can receive three graduate-level credits at the end of our program through Concordia University, Nebraska. There is no additional work that is above and beyond what you’re doing anyway from month to month so it’s just an added bonus to get credit for your TEC21 experience. Here are the details:
- The cost is $80/credit hour
- The online application process opens up on March 1, 2021 and closes May 15, 2021
- Concordia University is a ministry partner of TEC21 so they will email you from time to time this year to provide you with more information

Because building your professional learning network is vital in teaching today to connect, share, inspire, grow, and support one another. This Facebook group affords us the ability to extend our learning and support beyond our face-to-face workshop sessions. Google Productivity and Collaboration Tools
Google Docs Create and share documents individually or collaboratively. Produces a link which may be placed in Blackboard. Saves automatically and earlier versions of the document can automatically be accessed. Allows you to embed a link behind a typed word. Voice typing option too.
Google Drive Store all your folders and course materials in one place. Free cloud storage. “Waffle” of nine squares in right hand corner lets you access all Google tools from one location.
Google Folders. Create new in Google Drive. Can share folder once then everything within the folder is shared automatically. Great for students to set up one folder for each course and place all work, higlighted readings, etc. in one place that is shared with you.
Google Sheets Create and share spreadsheets. Every Student Response systems create a spreadsheet of student results that drops in here.
Google Slides Create presentations, individually or collaboratively. Produces a weblink you can post in Blackboard. Works well to have students each create one slide within your presentation to demonstrate learning. Can make presentations interactive using Add-On PearDeck.
Google Forms Create a survey, quiz, response tool with options including Multiple Choice, TF, Short Answer, Paragraph Responses, Drop Down List, Check Boxes, Linear Scale, and more. Responses automatically download in a spreadsheet.
Google Sites Build a website for information.
Add-Ons for Docs : Mindmeister (makes a mind map from a bulleted list), LucidChart (creates diagrams), Translate (translates text into a variety of languages), Kaizena (voice comments), EasyBib Bibliography Creator (creates references).
Add-Ons for Slides: PearDeck (makes presentations interactive by inserting slides to collect every student’s responses) PearDeck.com/join Then export student results to a spreadsheet by clicking on your session.
Add-On for Sheets: Flubaroo Google Spreadsheets add-on that grades Google Forms quizzes. You indicate the correct answer on your quiz in Google Forms by clicking to the left of the right answer, have students take the quiz by sharing the link with them, click on Results, then create a Google Spreadsheet. When you open the spreadsheet to to Add-Ons and have Flubaroo grade the assignment. Try it!

How do you save and organize all of your favorite websites? How do you plan on saving all the websites and resources you’ll learn about this year during your TEC21 workshops? Will you use your browser’s tool bar, a spreadsheet, a document, create website to serve as your digital toolbox using Google Sites, or some other handy means? Have you ever heard of Diigo? It’s a bookmarking website that enables you to build your library of resources. You can add the diigolet to your toolbar or you can add the Diigo Chrome extension to your Chrome browser. There is also has a social-bookmarking aspect to it where you can join a group like Lutheran Teachers so when you save a website you have the option to add it to the group for everyone else to have access to. If you’re still trying to find a way to organize your sites that suits you best, you might consider creating a Diigo account by giving it a try!
Padlet.com is an interactive bulletin board. You can create a board and post the URL so students simply click on it, click the +, add an idea. Organize for random notes, single line, columns, or back channel for questions and comments as you teach. Downloads as a spreadsheet too.
Socrative – Ask a variety of questions throughout your lessons: multiple choice, true-false, and short answer. Write questions out in advance or ask orally on the go. All responses record and can be displayed on the screen during the lesson to get every student response. Then download all data in a spreadsheet to see which students need additional instruction and practice. Website, teacher app, student app. My favorite! Socrative Student Login. Flipgrid is the leading video discussion platform used by millions of PreK to PhD educators, students, families, and organizations in more than 150 countries! Create a Grid (that’s your classroom or group), add Topics to spark the discussion, and your community builds a dialogue as they share short video responses. Helps build community in online spaces. This is a good way to have students respond visually in class. You can create one Flipgrid for the semester, then add new topics you want them to discuss. Please take 90 seconds to introduce yourself to the group by answering the questions provided by clicking on the link provided. I look forward to building a learner-centered community this year!
I am a text block. Use this text block to provide a description of a web- or a mobile-based application specific to the subject matter, interests, and needs of your respective group of teachers. Use links or embed code to show examples of completed projects or video tutorials explaining the digital tool whenever possible.
Open Educational Resources Commons provides free teaching materials you can search by subject area, education level, material type, media format, educational use, language, and more. Search the site to see if you can find free resources to amplify your course. One resource you can find here is the Ancient History Encyclopedia for you history and religion scholars. The 7 Questions Every New Teacher should be able to Answer. If you were interviewing for a position in your department, what questions would you ask the candidates? This article suggests that the questions we have been asking need to be updated to meet the updated roles of teachers in the age of the Internet. “The big change is not adding technology to the current design of the classroom, but changing the culture of teaching and learning and fundamentally changing the job descriptions of teachers and learners.” What do you think?
Google Tour Builder How could you use this tool to transform something you teach? View or Create Tours anywhere. Begin with an Introduction picture and writing, then Add a Location (the exact address will take you directly to that building) and add to the narrative, continue adding locations and story ideas. Saves automatically. Share so anyone with the link can view. Here is my sample of our Summer of Travel.
Unsplash.com Beautiful free, high quality resolution pictures. Search by your own descriptor, or by categories and collections. You can submit photos as well. When you download a photo it gives you the URL to “thank” the photographer, but you don’t need to include. I usually write “Photo Credit” and embed the link.
