2. Let’s take this time to reflect on last month’s TEC21 Challenges and share experiences. What happened? Were you successful? Did you come across any challenges?
1. Discover the value of video creation.
2. Explore video creation tools and resources to use with your students.
3. Identify a tool or resource to share with another teacher at your school.
Students can create videos to demonstrate a skill, show what they have learned, or just gain experience with video creating and technology. Teachers have had students create videos as a project, or have helped students create a video to advertise for the school, or simply make a fun video with their students to display what happens in their classroom.
Videos are an alternative learning/teaching method that enhance lessons or assessment.
Paper Slide videos is the marriage of low-tech and high-tech. For those just dabbling in technology this is a great place to start. By simply drawing/creating your own “slides” on paper and using a recording device to record a “1 take video”, this method is incredibly user friendly.
It may sound intimidating, but green screen video has become a mainstream, easy to make video creation. Green screen allows the videographer to take us to anywhere in the universe. Other than explaining a concept or presenting on a topic, students gain experience with the latest technology.
All of these tools are great for Digital Story Telling.

There is never enough time during the school day to instruct, manipulate, and assess. Teachers always have the desire to do more hands on activities with students or assist with work. Parents are always tired at the end of the day, and haven’t been in school for at least 10 years, and want to do more than help their kids with homework. Student always have questions during class, always need information repeated, or weren’t paying attention to the lecture.
The flipped classroom is one step closer to solving most of these major issues. Instruction occurs and home and work happens in the classroom. Students watch teacher created instruction in one video form or another at home during which they can rewind if they missed something or needed to hear it again. Then they come to school and do the work made by the teacher with help from the teacher, not the parent who doesn’t necessarily know what the teacher wants. Or students come to school and perform activities based on the content they learning during instruction the night before.
All of the tools above can be used by teachers to create the instructional material for a flipped classroom.
What aspects of digital citizenship need to be addressed when integrating video creation in the classroom?
